The Centre has proposed a hefty fine upto Rs 20 lakhs and ten years of imprisonment for carrying out clinical trials without the permission but still run short of a comprehensive legislation to control the highly unregulated clinical trials in the country.
Notwithstanding the expectations and promises, a separate bill to regulate the business of clinical trials is not likely to come up before the Parliament in the near future.
