Ethical Stem-Cell Research Breakthrough in Japan

Scientists in Japan have announced progress toward what they tout as ethical stem-cell research – research that does not destroy human life, the United Kingdom's Times On Line reported.

Professor Shinya Yamanaka said he was able to manipulate the skin cells of mice, forcing them to return to their embryonic state.

"It is hard to predict how the science will develop," he said, "but I think we could produce a basic prototype-induced stem cell made from a human adult cell within six months to a year."
